Range

The distance a vehicle can travel with the energy or fuel available under specified conditions.

Reviewed 05.10.2026 · Version 2 · Scope: General

How to interpret it

It may be a certified figure, a measurement, or an estimate. To compare figures, the method, conditions, and reserve considered must be known, and the same distance unit must be used.

Example

With 40 kWh of usable energy and a hypothetical constant consumption of 20 kWh per 100 km, an ideal calculation gives 200 km; this is not a prediction for a real trip.

Why it matters to you

Helps interpret a claimed travel distance and identify the assumptions that can change an estimate.

Common points of confusion

Range is not battery capacity or a guarantee of a certain distance in every use. Certified and real-world range are not interchangeable.
