How to interpret it

The abbreviation may appear in international documentation. It is necessary to identify the convention used before converting it: simply translating the English word as metric horsepower is not sufficient.

Example

A hypothetical power of 100 mechanical hp corresponds to approximately 74.57 kW.

Why it matters to you

It helps compare international information without introducing artificial differences through an incorrect unit conversion.

Common points of confusion

Do not interchange mechanical hp with CV or PS. Other horsepower conventions also exist; check what the source specifies.
