Battery state of health (SoH)

An indicator of a battery’s condition relative to a reference and according to an assessment method.

Reviewed 05.10.2026 · Version 2 · Scope: General

How to interpret it

It may assess aspects such as available capacity or performance. Before comparing percentages, it is worth checking the reference, procedure, and date; not all reports measure exactly the same thing.

Example

A hypothetical report showing 90% needs to explain which quantity it compares and against what reference; the number alone does not determine a contractual warranty.

Why it matters to you

It helps interpret information about a used battery and request a report that makes clear what was measured.

Common points of confusion

It is not the current charge percentage. Nor does it, by itself, establish remaining life, range, or compliance with a warranty.
