Annual equivalent rate (TAE)
The annual equivalent rate is an annual indicator of the effective cost of financing, calculated using the interest and the costs that must be included. In Spain, it is identified as TAE.

How to interpret it
Its calculation takes into account payment frequency and expenses required under the applicable rules. Comparing offers requires checking that they refer to the same amount, term, and conditions.
Example
Hypothetical example: financing may show a TAE higher than its TIN because it includes a fee. This illustrates the difference between the two indicators without calculating an actual offer.
Why it matters to you
It facilitates comparing financing with different payment structures. The contract and pre-contractual information are still needed to understand obligations and possible additional costs.
Common points of confusion
The TAE is not the monthly payment or the total amount of euros to be repaid. A similar indicator in another market may follow different rules.
