Preventive maintenance

Preventive maintenance comprises scheduled inspections and actions intended to keep a vehicle functioning and reduce the likelihood of failures.

Reviewed 05.10.2026 · Version 2 · Scope: General

How to interpret it

The plan depends on the manufacturer, variant, time, use, and expected conditions. It includes checks or replacements when required by the documentation, without assuming that every vehicle has the same tasks.

Example

Hypothetical example: a plan calls for an inspection based on elapsed time even though the vehicle has covered little distance. The owner consults that plan rather than assuming low mileage removes the need for it.

Why it matters to you

It helps organize inspections and expenses and maintain a useful service history for understanding the vehicle’s condition and maintenance record.

Common points of confusion

It does not guarantee that failures will not occur or replace repairs for a detected problem. This entry does not provide technical intervention instructions.
